An ethereal, romantic ceremony on the steps of an ancient temple

Xunantunich, San Ignacio

Genevieve and Joseph are one of those couples who approach planning their wedding with a sense of creativity and open mindedness. They dreamed of a mystical, original and outside of the box ceremony for their intimate ceremony attended by a small, tight-knit group of friends and family members.

When most people think of a destination wedding in Belize, they understandably think of the beach. While most of our ceremonies do take place by our country’s famously clear, turquoise sea, for Genevieve and Joseph, we suggested a ceremony at Xunantunich, a Mayan Ruin outside of San Ignacio, a gorgeous inland town frequented for its proximity to Belize’s historical attractions.

The couple’s ceremony would take place on the stunning steps of the ruins, surrounded by an intimate gathering of witnesses. Something about the ancient architecture was the perfect backdrop for this couple. The bride was arresting in her classic white dress, which cascaded down the steps as the couple said their vows. The whole ceremony was ethereal, which was a perfect vibe for this couple.

For a bold, young couple who love local lore, a ceremony near one of Belize’s many ancient ruins makes for a magical evening. Imagine saying your vows on a sacred structure from a lost ancient city! This couple’s emotional ceremony was romantic and quiet, and the setting really made the evening.

Cahal Pech Hotel is one of our founder Rachel Roe’s favorite venues (and spot to visit with her own family!) Their patio boasts sweeping views of the historic city and easy access to the reception venue from the ruins. We designed an understated but lovely table for this small party and coordinated with to create a high-quality, healthy but abundant dinner experience.

Overall, we loved working with this couple to create a super memorable wedding in a mysterious and stunning setting.
