Mayan Temple Wedding: Darcie & Joseph

Xunantunich, San Ignacio

Imagine marrying the love of your life on a colossal Mayan temple in the depths of the Belizean jungle. Darcie and Joseph had their unique wedding ceremony at Xunantanich, a historical Maya archaeological site located about 80 miles West of Belize City in Cayo district. The ruins, enveloped in a labyrinth of towering trees, are based on top of a limestone ridge while the Mopan River meanders below. Prepare for an enchanting adventure as modern love meets ancient worlds.

Darcie and her bridesmaids spent the first few hours of the day at Villa Maya, sipping champagne and prepping for the main event, topping the morning off with a fabulous pre-wedding pajama photoshoot. After nothing short of a princess transformation, Darcie and the girls set off down the winding roads until they reached “El Castillo”, the temple in the center of the archaeological site. El Castillo is carved with stories that depict Maya mythology, celestial phenomena and timeless mystery. Joseph’s royal blue velvet blazer and Darcie’s strapless white-laced dress looked stunning against the stone temple and emerald green grass surrounding. The bridesmaids wore elegant dresses in plum, turquoise and midnight blue, accented with cascading bouquets of tropical flowers. The bride and groom exchanged emotional vows on the temple’s sky-high stairs in the presence of their loved-ones, a moment never to be forgotten.

The celebration carried on into the evening at Tre’s Bar and Grill, a rustic-style outdoor ranch surrounded by rainforest. The indoor dining area was decorated to perfection, with white linens rippling across the ceiling and a frosted chandelier in the center. A centerpiece with blooming tropical flowers adorned the dining room table and the walls shimmered with golden lights. The menu consisted of mouth-watering local cuisine and electrifying beverages, such as fresh shrimp ceviche and sweet Caribbean rum. After a few moments of cake-cutting and heartfelt speeches, friends and family danced to upbeat music remixed with rainforest soul. Cheers to Darcie and Joseph and their happily ever after!
